Romania – United Arab Emirates, economic projects for 2018

Bucharest, February 5th, 2018: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received on February 5th, the working visit of H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdulla Saeed Bin Saeed Almatrooshi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Romania. On this occasion, the possibilities for expanding the cooperation relations between the two states were discussed.
The President of CCIR presented the main advantages of Constanța Port as a solution to the development of trade relations between Romania and the United Arab Emirates and talked about its potential to become an important hub for the UAE: “Constanța Port must be used to its full capacity in the transport of goods to and from Europe, by road or river, on the Danube”.
H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdulla Saeed Bin Saeed Almatrooshi appreciated the historical trade links between the UAE and Romania and stated that: “(…) the level of trade in goods and services between our countries needs to grow both through business development and diversification”.
In April, this year, the first session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the Government of Romania and the Government of the United Arab Emirates will be held in Bucharest. In this context, the representatives of the Government of the United Arab Emirates expressed their willingness to organize, with the support of the CCIR, an Economic Forum within the margin of the Joint Commission. H.E. Ambassador also announced the presence of an Emirate Economic Delegation led by the UAE Foreign Affairs Minister at the Romania-UAE Economic Forum.
According to the data provided by the ONRC at the level of February 2018, a total of 74 companies with emirate capital, with a subscribed capital of 24.08 million Euro, operate in Romania.
The volume of bilateral trade in goods, in October 2017, reached a total of 292.50 million EUR, while the volume of service exchanges for 2016 was 72.20 million EUR.
