Bucharest, March 23rd, 2018: Romexpo, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) and the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA) opened, on March 23rd, the doors of the International Automobile Salon (SIAB) 2018, with the day dedicated to the press.

11 years after its last edition, SIAB re-emerges in the landscape of exhibition events and is considered to be the most important event in the field of automobiles, organized in Romania. SIAB takes place at the Romexpo Exhibition Center, from March 23rd to April 1st.

The President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry said: “SIAB 2018 is the emblem event of the Romanian automotive industry and expresses the importance of an expanding economic sector. Recognized by the International Automobile Manufacturers Organization (OICA) and listed in its official timetable, SIAB 2018 benefits from an exceptional exhibition frame, unique in Romania, developed by investing 27 million Euros.”

At the same time, the President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban reiterated the need to develop Romania infrastructure to become a regional hub in the automotive industry: “I think that prioritization on the agenda of the infrastructure of any kind in Romania must become an important point of reference.”

The President of APIA, Mr. George Grigorescu said: “Over the years, SIAB 2018 will remain a reference issue due to the presentation to the Romanian public with an absolute European premiere, the new Volkswagen Touareg, in a launch event taking place simultaneously with the world premiere programmed in the same day at the Beijing Motor Show and the introduction of the car of the year in Europe, the Volvo XC40 SUV, in its first appearance after receiving the title in Geneva, just two weeks ago. To this, a number of other national awards are presented by most of the participating brands, which demonstrates the concern of the players in the auto market to get the best out of the potential customers, but also to clearly and unequivocally support the need for renewal and the modernization of the auto fleet in Romania.”
Mr. Cosmin Marinescu, Presidential Counselor, Department of Economic and Social Policy, sent the message of H.E. President of Romania, Mr. Klaus Iohannis at the opening of the International Automobile Salon Bucharest: “(…) It is a good time, in which the Romanian car industry marks some of the most notable achievements in its history. In the last decade, the Romanian automotive industry has almost tripled its performance, from about 8 billion Euros in 2009, to almost 24 billion Euros at the end of last year. (…) In the context of a more competitive and dynamic automotive market, exhibiting events such as the one inaugurated today are welcome initiatives for launching and promoting the automotive industry’s achievements. I hope that, through the success of the Bucharest International Automobile Show, Romania will take the leading position in the European exhibition.”
As the future belongs to sustainable mobility, SIAB 2018 does not lack the electric, hybrid or hydrogen-powered models, with technologies at the highest level that the auto industry proposes to reduce pollution in major cities.

Mr. Eugen Constantin Uricec, State Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, in his speech at the official opening of SIAB 2018, also referred to the type of automobile attestation: “(…) the ceiling of 18,000 Euro was increased to 35,000 Euro so that, the authorities and public institutions can benefit from funding from the environmental fund in order to purchase of 100% new electric vehicles”.
