Constanța, August 20th, 2018: President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, Mr. Mihai Daraban, received today, August 20th, 2018, at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture of Constanța (CCINA), the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Constanța, Uygar Mustafa Sertel, in the context of his mandate.

During the discussions, the very good stage of the current bilateral relations was approached, Mihai Daraban appreciating, in particular, the work of the Consul General. At the same time, Mihai Daraban emphasized the importance of resuming the RO-RO and RO-LA transport links between Constanţa and Istanbul.

“I hope that the Customs and Border Police will come to life and support this project, not like in 2012 when the cars of individuals were not accepted in these transport programs because of procedural defects,” said Mihai Daraban.

The Turkish diplomat said that he met special specialists in Romania with whom he had a very good collaboration and that it was a pleasure to know the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture of Constanța during his tenure.

The event was also attended by Dr. Kadir Yazihan, Commercial Attaché of the Consulate General of Turkey, in Constanța.

Background

According to the information provided by the ONRC, in February 2018, Turkey is ranked 15th among the top 50 by country of residence of investors with foreign participation in the share capital. In the first quarter of this year, a total of 15,142 Turkish companies operate on the territory of Romania, with a total subscribed capital of 566.32 million Euros.

Economic relations between the two countries are at a good level, with trade targets of 8 billion euros in the coming years. In 2017, Turkey continued to be the first trading partner of Romania outside the EU and its 5th partner in the total international trade of Romania, respectively the 6th export partner and the 9th importing partner. Romania is one of Turkey’s major trading partners, ranking 15th on export and 17th on import.
