Algeria, Romania’s third trading partner in Africa

Alger, February 25th, 2019: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, heads a delegation of businessmen from Romania on an economic mission in Algeria, on February 24th-27th.
On the agenda of the economic mission there are a series of important meetings with decision-makers from the Algerian political and economic environment, such as the Minister of Industry, Mr. Youcef Yousfi, Minister of Commerce, Mr. Said Djellab, and the president of the national railway company, Mr. Slimane Bouchema.
“Algeria has become Romania’s third trading partner in Africa after Morocco and Egypt, our country having a particular interest in intensifying and developing the economic relations between the two countries. An important area of bilateral cooperation can be the green and renewable energy sector, Romania being among the most developed countries in Central and Eastern Europe in the field of wind and solar. We are interested in knowing the possibilities of the Algerian economy to identify products that can be imported to balance the trade balance”, said the President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
The economic mission program includes participation in the Algerian-Romanian Economic Forum, where the Romanian-Algerian Business Group will be re-launched. There will also be bilateral business meetings with Algerian companies, meetings organized with Algeria Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), depending on the profile of the Romanian companies.
Today, the CCIR Delegation will have a meeting with the Industry Minister, Youcef Yousf, as well as the president of CACI, Mohamed Laid Benamour. Also, the president of CCIR, Mihai Daraban, will have a meeting with the Minister of Commerce, Said Djellab.
Alger, February 26th, 2019: The official CCIR delegation, headed by President Mihai Daraban, participates today, February 26th, at the opening of the Romania-Algeria Business Forum. During the event the presentations of the business environments of the two states take place in order to promote the possible ways of collaboration. The entrepreneurs have also access to B2B meetings in order to collect the contacts base for possible new business partners.
On this occasion, the signing ceremony took place between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Algeria (CACI). The agreement provides for new directions of collaboration between the two national chambers.
At the Business Forum, the two new co-chairs of the Romania-Algeria Businessmen’s Group, which operate under the leadership of the two chambers of commerce and national industry, will be appointed.
According to the data provided by ONRC, the total value of trade between Romania and Algeria amounts to 286.4 million Euros at the end of 2018. In Romania there are 74 companies with Algerian capital, the total amount subscribed being almost 115 thousand Euros.
Algerian customs data show that Romania exported products worth USD 623 million in 2017, an increase of 9.3% compared to 2016, which places our country in 7th place at European level and 15th place in the world.
