Bucharest, November 21st , 2019: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received today, November 21, the visit of H.E. Mrs. Lea Stančič, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Bucharest, in order to identify solutions to increase the volume of trade between the two states.

During this meeting, Slovenian business opportunities were presented and cooperation prospects were identified between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) and the Slovenian Embassy in Bucharest for the intensification of bilateral trade.

“Romania needs to further develop maritime transport, due to the facilities that Constanta Port offers. Romania and Slovenia, as well as the rest of the countries under the Three Seas Initiative, are very involved in trade at European level, and intensifying trade at sea would create new business opportunities for the business environments in these states. In addition, the initiative of the Three Seas Initiative to strengthen energy independence, in this sense the ports of the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Sea have good infrastructure for the creation of energy terminals ”, stated the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“Romania and Slovenia can initiate a dialogue on good practices for attracting European funds, for investments that can be made in the Romanian infrastructure, my country being one of the largest beneficiaries and accessors of such funds. In order to have a common discussion base, one of the priorities is to move to all the counties in Romania and to talk with the presidents of the chambers of commerce in the territory”, said H.E. Lea Stančič, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Bucharest.

Background

According to information provided by ONRC, at the level of 2018, the value of trade between Romania and Slovenia amounted to 1.03 billion euros, and during the first eight months of 2019, 792.6 million euros were registered. The total number of Slovenian companies active in Romania in November 2019 was 118, with a total subscribed share capital of almost 14 million Euros.
