Bucharest, May 19th, 2020: President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received, today, May 19th, the visit of H.E. Andrew Noble, the ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bucharest, in order to identify solutions to increase the volume of trade between the two states, in the new context caused by the COVID 19 pandemic.

During this meeting, established at the request of the British Embassy in Bucharest, topics were addressed, such as: the situation of the Romanian business environment during the COVID 19 pandemic, measures to restart the economy and the stage of post-Brexit negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom Britain.

“Fortunately, in Romania, not all economic sectors have stopped or diminished their activity during this period. Civil constructions, industrial production, shipyards and agriculture are areas where the activity continued in relatively normal parameters, and in the shipbuilding sector, in some cases, new hires were made. Maintaining activity in such sectors will be able to contribute to an easier recovery of the Romanian economy in the next period. CCIR carefully monitors the evolutions of the business environment and constantly supports the dialogue between it and the Romanian Government. Recently, we sent to the authorities a list of 73 proposals for measures designed to help the business environment in our country during the pandemic “, said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“I believe that the Romanian economy has the ability to return to normal in a relatively short period, in the context of a joint effort by both the private sector and the central authorities. In this context, it becomes very important to identify together opportunities for intensifying trade between the two countries and to promote the investment opportunities that Romania can offer to British entrepreneurs. Last but not least, it is necessary to strengthen the collaboration relations between CCIR and the British Romanian Chamber of Commerce”, said H.E. Andrew Noble, the ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bucharest

According to the information provided by ONRC, in 2019, the value of trade between Romania and the United Kingdom amounts to 4.2 billion euros. The total number of UK companies active in Romania in March 2020 was 5986, with a total value of the subscribed share capital of almost 1.03 billion Euros.
