Bucharest, December 2nd, 2020: The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had today, December 2nd, a meeting with H.E. the Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania, Mr. Adrian Zuckerman, in order to identify viable solutions to increase bilateral trade.

During the meeting, which lasted about three hours, current issues were addressed, such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy of the two countries, the increase of US investments in Romania and, implicitly, facilitating the access of Romanian entrepreneurs to the American market. those in the US in the European space.

“I had an extremely fruitful meeting with H.E. Mr. Adrian Zuckerman, in which we managed to touch on many of the problems facing the business environment, both in Romania and in the USA, especially now, during the pandemic. The United States had an economic growth of 33.1% in the third quarter of 2020. It is an extremely dynamic market. At the same time, it is a market that should tempt us more than the European Union market currently tempts us, where, unfortunately, we have become an economy of subcontractors. In the USA there is the highest density of multinationals, which offers investors a huge potential to penetrate other markets, America being a hub for many economic directions and more. As you know, the mission of CCIR is to support the internationalization of the Romanian business, to reach the stage of exporting services”, said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“The USA has long expressed its interest in the development of entrepreneurship and the private sector in Romania. In fact, this is a basic pillar of the Strategic Partnership between the two states. I am firmly convinced that a healthy business environment is a very important element in building and consolidating democracy. The sustainable development of the business environment is undoubtedly followed by economic growth. But we must not forget the application of the rule of law, another essential element for a strong economy. The business environment needs sound legislation, predictability, laws that do not change from day to day “, said H.E. the Ambassador of the United States of America to Romania, Mr. Adrian Zuckerman.

The value of bilateral trade between Romania and the USA stood at the end of last year at 2.1 billion euros, according to data provided by ONRC. The total number of US companies active in Romania in March 2020 was 7903, with a total value of the subscribed share capital of almost 1.1 billion dollars.
