Sofia, July 9th, 2021: This year, the Summit of the 3 Seas and the Economic Forum started on July 9th, in Sofia, Bulgaria, and took place over two days.

The host of the event, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, H.E. Mr. Rumen Radev welcomed in Sofia the heads of state and government and top representatives from the 12 participating 3SI countries. Both the Summit and the Business Forum was attended by 3SI partners such as the Federal Republic of Germany, the United States of America, and the European Commission.

The economic forum run in parallel with the Summit and was opened by a presidential group. The forum’s first day took place under the auspices: “The Road to Smart Development and Comprehensive Economic Growth.” The next day focused on “The Three Seas Initiative: A Road to a Stronger, United competitive.”

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) was represented at the Economic Forum within the sixth 3SI Summit by Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi, Secretary-General of CCIR, who sent a video message noting the substantial development and pragmatism of 3SI, which focused on “implementing projects of great interest to the region.”

“In light of the mentioned topic, I consider it important to stress also the necessity to strengthen the interconnectivity between the North Sea, Danube and the Black Sea through the Pan-European Transport Corridor VII, respectively the East-West axis by investing more in the development of transport, energy and digital infrastructure. In the same vein of pragmatism, special attention has to be given to the involvement of the business community. We strongly believe that a robust public-private partnership will contribute to the rapid and successful implementation of the priority projects identified so far”, said Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi.

“Bulgaria will continue further on the ambitious path of releasing the capacity of the Initiative as a genuine tool for regional cooperation and accelerated development of our region through improving the energy, transport and digital connectivity” said the President of the host country, H.E. Mr. Rumen Radev, in a message posted on the 3SI official website, 2021.

Background:

During the 3SI Summit in Bucharest in 2018, the first edition of the Business Forum organized by the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place. The event brought together over 600 participants (officials and business representatives) from the countries participating in 3SI, other EU Member States, the USA, the Western Balkans, the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, and Ukraine.
