Quito, March 4, 2024: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) organized, on March 4, in Quito, the Romania – Ecuador Business Forum. Our country’s delegation, along with the president of the National Chamber, Mr. Mihai Daraban, and the general secretary of the organization, Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi, included representatives of 13 Romanian companies active in different fields of activity.

The Romania-Ecuador Business Forum was preceded by the meeting of the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, with the president of the Quito Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Monica Heller, on the occasion of which it was decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations, with the aim of revitalizing bilateral economic relations .

“Romania has a great need to re-enter the markets of South America, markets that, not long ago, we considered traditional. But for this to happen, business forums organized by the CCIR alone are not enough. The involvement of the Romanian State must be an assumed one, through a strong economic diplomacy, which, unfortunately, is not happening at this moment. We therefore particularly appreciate the interest shown by the Government of the Republic of Ecuador in today’s Business Forum, which, through the presence of the Deputy Minister of Energy, the Deputy Minister of Construction and Transport and the Deputy Minister of Housing Development, gives a strong signal to the entire Ecuadorian business environment vis-a-vis the business opportunities they can have with the Romanian side. The actions of the National Chamber in favor of the revitalization of Romania’s economic presence on the South American markets are obvious, but we also expect a corresponding response from the authorities in our country”, said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

The Romania-Ecuador Business Forum was followed by a session of Business2Business (B2B) and Business2Government (B2G) meetings, where, together with representatives of Romanian companies, representatives of 25 Ecuadorian companies from different economic sectors were also present, such as : construction, property development, energy, green energy solutions, transport and rail infrastructure, recycling and waste management, tourism and medical services.
