Antwerp, June 12, 2024: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, and the Secretary General of the CCIR, Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi, participated on June 12 this year. at the General Assembly of the European Association of Chambers of Commerce (Eurochambres), convened for the purpose of finalizing the action plan regarding the elimination of barriers within the single market, as well as debating some normative acts with a direct impact on the activity of European chambers of commerce.

“Today’s General Assembly has a special significance, being the first one organized after the results of the elections for the European Parliament. Prior to this event, Eurochambres issued a report, for the period 2019-2024, in which the real problems encountered by the member chambers of commerce, directly related to the activity of the European Commission, are listed. Thus, among the measures adopted by the European Parliament during this period, Eurochambres identified the increasingly demanding and burdensome regulations for the business environment, the continuous fragmentation of the single market, as well as the lack of progress regarding the creation of the Capital Markets Union, at European level. Also, the non-existence of a unified legislation for European chambers of commerce, an aspect that the CCIR has repeatedly pointed out in meetings held at an official level, prevents their more effective involvement in the adoption of measures at a political level in support of business people. It is very possible that all these problems were also reflected in the vote that certain political formations received in the elections for the European Parliament. Clearly, it is necessary for the future European Commission to listen more to the voice of business people”, said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
