Romania-China Business Forum 2024: Strengthening Economic Partnerships and Investment Opportunities

Bucharest, July 1st, 2024: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, attended the Romania-China Economic Forum on Monday, July 1st, organized by CCIR in collaboration with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) of Zhejiang Province.
The event was held on the occasion of the visit by the Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, Mr. Xu Wenguang, who was accompanied by a delegation of prominent Chinese companies from various sectors. The Romanian side was represented by 47 companies selected by CCIR, in conjunction with the Brașov Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban provided an overview of the economic ties with Chinese partners: “Bilateral relations between Romania and China are on a positive trend, with last year’s trade exchanges amounting to €7.616 billion, plus €309 million in services. We intend to focus more on services in the future. As of March 2024, there were 13,697 firms with Chinese capital in Romania, with a subscribed capital of €357 million. Additionally, the National Bank of Romania recently announced a total of €307 million in direct Chinese investments in Romania. These figures reveal a significant potential that must be harnessed through active involvement from both business communities.”
Mr. Xu Wenguang, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, stated: “I can proudly say that economically, Zhejiang Province ranks fourth in China. (…) In 2023, the trade volume between Zhejiang Province and Romania reached $2.3 billion. By the end of last year, Romania had invested in 96 enterprises in China. This year also marks the 75th anniversary of Romania-China bilateral relations, highlighting a history of collaboration and economic tradition.”
During the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between CCIR and CCPIT, expressing the mutual interest of both parties in diversifying bilateral collaboration, economic development, and intensifying trade exchanges as a common priority.
