Bucharest, June 26th, 2018: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, participated on Tuesday, June 26th, at the forum “ROMANIA – ENERGETIC HUB. A Romanian interconnected regional energy market”, an event organized at the Palace of Parliament by the Intact Media Group Trust.

The main topics of discussion within this event were the perspectives of Romania to become a regional energy hub and Romania’s energy strategy during 2016-2030. At the same time, the energy infrastructure projects at the European and national level and the infrastructure investments were analyzed to improve the conditions of continuity in the electricity supply.

The President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, supported the opportunity for Romania to become a regional energy hub considering its natural and potential resources: “Romania has no problem becoming a regional energy hub. We have natural resources and we have the potential resources that, according to a study, will bring by the year 2040, 26 billion dollars in state budget revenues, will ensure GDP growth of 40 billion dollars and will generate 30 thousand jobs. Clearly, Romania has this chance and we want to become a regional energy hub. ”

Mr. Anton Anton, the Minister of Energy, stressed the importance of creating an organizational structure for Romania to become a regional energy hub: “We have our own natural resources, we have a strategic geographical position, we have the capacity to transport and store energy. We also have centralized trading platforms. What don’t we have? An organizational structure. We have the components, but they must be protected and developed because they are in different stages of development. We have absolutely all the conditions and I think we need to take this step and become a regional energy hub.”

Viorel Ştefan, Deputy Prime Minister, stressed the need for strategic partnerships in the field of energy and mentioned that “Romania has rich resources in renewable energy, hydropower, wind, solar and photovoltaic energy. These resources are distributed throughout the country and can be exploited on a wider scale. However, it is necessary to develop strategic partnerships in the energy system on the investment dimensions, transfer of know-how and security of the critical infrastructure. As a priority, I mention the strategic partnerships between the United States and China. ”

The event was attended by Iulian Iancu, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies’ Commission for Industry and Services, Răzvan Nicolescu – Director and Principal Adviser, Energy & Sustainability, Deloitte Romania, Vasile Iuga – Energy Consultant, Alexey Golovin – Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy – KMG International, Adrian Volintiru – General Manager Romgaz, Cătălin Stanciu – Electrica General Manager, Bogdan Badea – President of Hidroelectrica Directorate, Alessio Menegazzo – Director, Interinstitutional Affairs and Sustainability Enel and Cosmin Ghiţă – Nuclearelectrica General Manager.

Background
