Investments in the infrastructure of the Port of Constanța, to the attention of the US Embassy in Romania

Bucharest, November 22, 2023: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had an official meeting with the Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Embassy in Romania, Mr. Michael L. .Dickerson, as well as with the economic counselor at the same embassy, Mrs. Kimberly Barr.
During the meeting, topics of major interest for the development of the economic component of the strategic partnership between Romania and the USA were addressed, such as: the development of the infrastructure of the Constanța Port, as an objective of great strategic importance in the new geopolitical situation, the implications of the new tax measures on the business environment from Romania and boosting bilateral economic relations between the two states by attracting new investments in Romania.
“At the moment, Constanța Port has taken over the cargo activity of the six-seven Ukrainian ports that ceased their activity due to the war and has thus become an important hub for goods transiting the Black Sea. Even if the war in Ukraine were to end today, we can remain a major player in this region for at least another five years. However, we still have work to do on the revitalization of traffic on the Danube River so that goods can reach Europe more easily, and to transform this river artery into an operational one 12 months a year, we need serious investments. The interest of the US Embassy in Romania in connection with this subject may be a serious signal for American businessmen. Even if the commercial relationship between Romania and the USA has been on an upward trend for several years, we can find new major joint economic projects that will benefit both countries”, said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
