Bucharest, November 28th, 2023: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received, on November 28th this year, the visit of H.E. Mr. Ricardo Guerra de Araújo, the ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Romania, who showed a special interest in identifying common means aimed at accelerating commercial exchanges between our countries.

The president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban expressed total availability to continue supporting the efforts of the Brazilian embassy in Bucharest, the target being the involvement of companies from Romania and Brazil in projects with economic impact, which produce high added value, through mutual investments and technology transfer, in strategic fields.

“Brazil is on the verge of signing the MERCOSUR agreement with the European Union, and the CCIR will support the general effort to complete the ratification of this agreement, the Romanian business community being interested in the future advantages and facilities of access to the largest Latin American market. We intend to accelerate cooperation with Brazil under the new conditions, in fields with potential in both countries, for example: agriculture, the automobile industry, the oil and gas industry, and the defense and aeronautics industry,” said president Daraban.

H.E. Mr. Ricardo Guerra de Araújo, the ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, stated: “As the first step of my mandate, I will work on synchronizing the efforts of the parties, for the organization of the Romania-Brazil Mixed Commission at the beginning of 2024, in the framework of which a business forum, an excellent opportunity to materialize the ideas presented today in my dialogue with President Daraban.”

The MERCOSUR states (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Brazil) reached a political agreement with the EU in 2019 on the creation of a free trade agreement, with the main aim of increasing trade and investment between the EU and the MERCOSUR states by eliminating or reducing customs duties in exchange of goods.

In the bilateral exchange of goods with MERCOSUR states, Romania can continue to play a key role.
