CCIR took over the Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC Business Council

Bucharest, January 22, 2019: On January 1, 2020 Romania took over for the sixth time in raw the Chairmanship-in-Office (CiE) of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania – CiE of the BSEC Business Council (BSEC BC) for the next six months.
For the term of Romania’s mandate, January 1 – June 30, 2020, President-in-Office of BSEC BC was appointed Mr. Mihai Daraban, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, and as Secretary General was designated Mr. Eduard Costin, Director of Foreign Affairs Department.
On these coordinates, CCIR will strive to enhance the economic cooperation as a prerequisite of the sustainable development of the wider Black Sea region.
According to these principles, the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, stated: “We intend during the Romanian mandate of Chairmanship-in-Office of the BSEC BC to generate positive changes that will strengthen the organization, by increasing its efficiency and relevance in the region. For this, we will stimulate a dynamic dialogue with the members of BSEC BC, which will enhance communication between member states and the cohesion within the organization. On sectoral level, we will focus on assessing and identifying solutions that will galvanize regional cooperation in key areas for region’s sustainable economic development: transport and connectivity, environment protection, green energy and competitiveness.”
The motto of Romanian Chairmanship-in-Office – ”Bridging Shores through Enhancing Cohesion” – illustrates Romania’s belief that the future of organization should be built around concepts of cohesion, interconnectivity and dialogue, including in relation with the European Union.
Background:
The Business Council of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC BC) was established on August 30, 1992 and became operational on May 1, 1993. At the end of March 1995, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, through its President, was designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania as a representative of Romanian business community in this Council, taking part in its activity.
The organization chairmanship is assured by rotation at every 6 months. This ensures a regular interaction between the national communities of businessmen from the participating states and the intergovernmental bodies of the BSEC. The last mandate of the Chairmanship-in-Office of Romania (the 5th) was from July 1 to December 31, 2015. During the Chairmanship, Romania aimed to strengthen the economic mission of BSEC.
The member states of Business Council are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine.
