Bucharest, November 16th, 2017: The Tourism Fair of Romania, the biggest national event dedicated to the tourism industry, was officially opened on Thursday, November 16th, 2017, at Romexpo Exhibition Center, C3 Pavilion.

Mr. Mihai Daraban, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, said: “It is my great honor to be with you at the opening of the 38th edition of the Tourism Fair of Romania. TTR gathers together 203 exhibitors occupying 7474 square meters. At the same time, there is a high degree of internationalization. We are talking about 11 participating countries, many local public authorities, and I want to greet them on this occasion because they understand that they also need sustained promotion. I want tourism to be a significant figure of GDP and this will happen when certified and officially recognized places of accommodation will correspond to the statistics of the Romanian Police regarding the registered tourists. It is possible that this event will be the last one hosted in these salons and that the next edition will take place in the new pavilions, for which we have already signed the reception protocol.”

Mr. Alin Burcea, President of the National Association of Tourism Agencies (ANAT), stressed that “we have history with tourism fairs. For us, 2017 was a good year, there were more tourists, more Romanians went abroad, more foreigners came to Romania. We are still quite weak on what the arrivals of foreign tourists are in Romania, even if we have big increases – 10, 12, 15 percent every year, we start from 2 to 2.2 million tourists, we still have lot to recuperate but we are growing. We have two major new issues to solve as travel agents: first, guaranteeing tourists’ paid accommodation and VAT on commission. All Romanian tourism has 9%, agencies still have 19%.”

Mrs. Cristina Ionela Tărteţă, State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that the Tourism Advisory Council, which includes tourism associations and federations, “took the best decisions to make tourism succeed. There are indeed increases in the number of arrivals of foreign tourists, and this is what the World Tourism Organization says, which has decreed that from all over Eastern Europe, Romania has the highest increase in income of 12%. Related to what Mr. Burcea said, we report some rather small figures, but I hope we can see that we are trying to do more and I think we can do it.”
The Romanian Tourism Fair is organized and hosted by Romexpo, in partnership with the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Association of Tourism Agencies of Romania (ANAT) – strategic partner, the Romanian Tourism Balneary Tourism Organization (OPTBR), the Federation Romanian Tourism Patronages (FPTR) and the National Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism.
