Bucharest, March 20th, 2019: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban received on March 20th, the visit of H.E. Mr. Dang Tran Phong, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of R.S. Vietnam in Romania with the aim of identifying solutions to increase the volume of trade between the two countries.
The agenda included topics such as the direct connection of small and medium-sized enterprises in Romania and Vietnam and the development of associations between companies in the two countries in areas such as civil engineering, infrastructure or production.
“Romania can become a logistic hub for goods manufactured in Vietnam destined for the European market, both by our status as a member state of the UE and by the available naval infrastructure, namely Constanța port and river transportation on the Danube. This infrastructure allows easier access of goods to Western European states. Trade between Romania and R.S. Vietnam is at a level below the potential of the two economies and the current figures do not reflect the categories of goods that are exported from Romania through third countries”, said CCIR President, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
“There is a lot of similarities between Romania and Vietnam, both in terms of the geopolitical advantage and the structure of the business environment. The development of economic and trade relations between Romania and Vietnam can be achieved through the direct connection of small and medium-sized enterprises. Even though most Romanian companies with Vietnamese capital are active in the field of trade, it is necessary to develop partnerships between companies in other areas, because we can contract together international projects, “said H.E. Mr. Dang Tran Phong.
Background
According to the information provided by ONRC, at the level of October 2018, the value of trade between Romania and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam amounts to 168.62 million Euros.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania signed a co-operation agreement with Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hanoi in July 2016.
