Bucharest, April 2nd, 2019: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cyprus, held on Tuesday, April 2nd, the Romania-Cyprus Business Forum, an event that took place in the margin of the visit of Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Romanian-Cyprus Business Forum was set up as an opportunity for the Romanian business environment to get in touch with representatives of important Cypriot companies operating in various economic sectors, such as: financial, banking, audit, accounting, commercial legal services , real estate transactions.

The President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban stressed the opening of the whole chamber system in our country towards the Cypriot entrepreneurs’ interests and at the same time appreciated the level of bilateral exchanges: “By 2018, the total value of bilateral trade amounted to 115 million of the Euro, and the turnover of services is around 202 million Euros. At present, 6044 Cypriot companies are active in Romania, with a total subscribed capital of 4.81 million Euros. In conclusion, as the figures show, Cyprus is one of the most important foreign investors in Romania”.

H.E. Mr. Dimitris Hatziargyrou, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Romania, welcomed the presence of entrepreneurs from both countries at the business forum: “We hope that the interaction between entrepreneurs will be productive and useful in promoting and capitalizing on the economic relations that existe between our countries for centuries. (…) The prospect of expanding this interaction between Cypriot and Romanian companies is on the rise. But we need to put more emphasis on trade. Romania has a dynamic economy that has many business prospects”.

The President of the Romania-Cyprus Bilateral Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Nicolas Georghiades, supported the benefits of investing in our country in the context of his 25-year experience in Romania: “Areas such as oil and gas, tourism, agriculture and IT are the areas where the two countries share common interest points. Romania offers a very competitive business environment”.

Background:

The Romanian-Cypriot relations are very good, enhanced by cooperation within the EU, by the economic cooperation, as well as by the existence of a large number of Romanian communities in the Republic of Cyprus.

Between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry was signed a Cooperation Agreement on March 14th, 2007. In 2003, the Cyprus Business People Association of Romania, under the aegis of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Cyprus, and in 2004 the Cyprus-Cyprus Bilateral Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
