Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) ranks Romania 69 out of 180, with RO being at the same level as neighboring countries such as Bulgaria and Hungary. The CPI reflects the way companies outside Romania view our country (and other countries) from a corruption perspective. Many foreign companies study the general business climate in terms of corruption and problems / difficulties in doing business in a particular country when deciding to invest and / or get involved in business partnerships.
Therefore, the perception on general and corporate corruption in Romania represents a major setback for attracting foreign investment, establishing international joint ventures or engaging in international partnerships with companies in other countries, among others. Furthermore, corrupt practices lead to conditions of disloyal competition, which affects the overall development of the entire business environment in Romania.
