Bucharest, February 16, 2023: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had a meeting today, February 16, with H.E. Mister. Otabek Akbarov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan for Romania, the agenda of discussions including topics related to the ways of developing economic and commercial relations between the business communities between the two states.

“CCIR particularly appreciates the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan for Romania to dynamize and intensify the cooperation between the two states, both on a commercial and investment level. Moreover, this initiative correlates perfectly with the CCIR’s constant concern, namely supporting the access of Romanian companies to extra-EU markets. In this context, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and the formation of a delegation of Romanian companies to participate, in April of this year, at the exhibition organized in Tashkent, becomes very important. At the same time, we invite Uzbek companies to participate in the fairs and exhibitions held throughout the year at the Romexpo Exhibition Center, especially at the INDAGRA international fair, taking into account the fact that less than 10% of Romanian farmers know that they can import fertilizers from Uzbekistan”, said the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“I want to thank the CCIR for all the support and openness it has shown regarding our embassy’s request. The CCIR’s efforts to boost trade between the two states are reflected in the figures recorded at the end of each year, which are on an upward trend. There is a real interest of Uzbekistan to expand cooperation with non-Asian countries, especially European ones, an interest stated many times at the highest level by the president of our country. Thus, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the CCIR and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan is a priority for us, in this way businessmen from the two states will be able to communicate and exchange information more easily.
