Bucharest, September 18, 2025: The Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) hosted on September 18 the second edition of the Romania-Brazil Business Forum, an event that brought together representatives of over 35 Brazilian companies from 25 different sectors of activity with their Romanian counterparts within a platform dedicated to consolidating bilateral economic relations.

One of the relevant discussion topics for this business forum was the trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, the regional trade bloc formed by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

In opening the Romania-Brazil Business Forum, CCIR President Mr. Mihai Daraban emphasized the importance of this trade agreement: “At the level of the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Eurochambres), we have already decided to support the EU-Mercosur trade agreement. We know there are certain fears from some states regarding the entry into force of this agreement, but competition should not frighten anyone. Everyone wants to be the only one in the market when they produce something, but this, obviously, is not possible. I am firmly convinced that the EU-Mercosur trade agreement will be a step forward in business development at the European Union level.”

Present at this event, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Romania, H.E. Mr. Ricardo Guerra de Araujo, mentioned that “there is considerable misunderstanding regarding this trade agreement. In the agricultural sector especially, several states have expressed fear that the market will be flooded with agricultural products from South America. I don’t believe this; the opportunities and benefits that will result from this agreement will be greater than the challenges that will be felt by certain economic sectors. At the moment, between Romania and Brazil there is a trade value of under 500 million euros, the real potential being one billion euros annually.”
