Bucharest, February 18th: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received on February 18th, the visit of H.E. Mr. Sarayoot Kalayanamit, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Romania, in order to develop bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, topics of common interest were discussed, such as the possibility that Romania could become the main distribution platform for goods from Thailand to be marketed in the European Union, taking into account the well-established naval infrastructure in our country.
“The current volume of trade between Romania and the Kingdom of Thailand is below the potential of the two economies, the values were much higher, as the current figures do not reflect the categories of goods that are exported from Romania through third countries. Romania can become a logistics hub for goods manufactured in Thailand that are destined for the European market. With our naval infrastructure, Constanta port and river transport along the Danube, we can offer easier access to Western European states. I believe that it is necessary, as a first step towards the development and diversification of the trade between Romania and Thailand, the development of a business guide to help Romanian businessmen”, said CCIR president, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
“We are looking to reactivate Romania-Thailand Business Council and take advantage of this meeting to propose the identification of Romanian businesspeople interested in running or being part of such an organization. It is well known that Romania has a high degree of development in terms of internet infrastructure, this economic sector being one of the areas of interest for Thailand, along with technology and agriculture. In this respect, we will be present with a business delegation at this year’s edition of TIBCO. I invite the CCIR leadership to attend the annual meeting of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which will be held in the second half of March this year”, H.E. Mr. Sarayoot Kalayanamit.
