CCIR Official Delegation – Economic Mission in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan, May 13, 2019: On May 12th-13th, the official delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) carries out an economic mission to the Kyrgyz Republic. On this occasion, high-level meetings were scheduled to facilitate the access of Romanian and Kyrgyz entrepreneurs to the markets of the two countries, as well as to increase the volume of trade between Romania and Kyrgyzstan.
The economic mission in Central Asia is supported by the Embassy of Romania, through the direct involvement of H.E. Mr. Cezar Armeanu, Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Kazakhstan, also accredited for the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, which has made strong efforts that the CCIR delegation can fulfill all the objectives on the agenda, also promoting the Romanian business environment in this area.
In the framework of the economic mission, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic with the aim of establishing the working framework and the guidelines for the development of trade relations.
“The Kyrgyz Republic is one of the Central Asian states to which Romania has a particular interest, especially in the process of regaining the traditional economic markets. The business environment in Romania is very interested in expanding its businesses to new markets other than those within the European Union. Central Asia offers real opportunities for development, and through its geostrategic position, Romania can become a gateway to Asia’s commodities, to the community space”, said the President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
The event was attended by high Kyrgyz dignitaries, Nurbek Murashev – Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Shumkarbek Adilbek Uluu – Director of the Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Chingiz Aidarbekov – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marat Sharshekeev – President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. On behalf of Romania, Mr. Lazăr Comănescu – Counselor on Foreign Affairs of the President of CCIR.
The official delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania carries on an economic tour in Central Asia, on May 12th-17th. The visit to the Kyrgyz Republic is the first on the agenda, followed by two more visits to the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan, the main goal is to identify the best solutions for the Romanian business environment in terms of expanding business in these markets.
Background
The value of bilateral trade between Romania and the Kyrgyz Republic was at the end of last year at 2.1 million Euros, according to data provided by ONRC.
Since 2003, after the accreditation of the Romanian Ambassador to Kazakhstan in Kyrgyzstan, several contacts have taken place in the sphere of the private sector, with a view to starting some commercial collaborations, especially in the following areas: light clothing industry, footwear, leather goods, food industry, construction, furniture.
