Bucharest, November 2, 2022: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had a meeting on Wednesday, November 2 with H.E. Mr. Peer Gebauer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany in Romania. The main topic of discussion at the meeting was the effectiveness of the German chamber system in terms of creating business opportunities for entrepreneurs in this country, as well as the need to implement a similar system in Romania.

“Definitely, Germany represents an economic model whether we are talking about attracting new investments or when we are talking about opening new markets for the entrepreneurs of this state. Perhaps less well known is the role that the chamber system in this country has in this equation, a chamber system supported and encouraged by the German state. Unfortunately, this does not happen in Romania either, our chamber system being probably the most underfunded in Europe, and the result is reflected in the huge trade deficit registered at the end of the year. I take this opportunity to ask H.S. Mister. Peer Gebauer’s help in terms of promoting among the authorities in Romania, the mode of operation, as well as the advantages of a chamber system validated by a very well-defined law, such as the German one. If we want an economically strong Romania, we certainly need a chamber system like Germany’s, with authorities that can really support it, as well as with truly professional representatives of economic diplomacy”, said the president CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“Romania and Germany have a very close collaboration not only on the economic level, but also on the social, political or cultural level. 30 years ago, the Treaty between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany regarding friendly cooperation and partnership in Europe was signed, which represented a real success story for our bilateral relations. Thus, commercial exchanges entered an upward trend, at the end of last year their total value reached 35.1 billion euros, and in the middle of this year to 23.3 billion euros. From the point of view of direct German investments in Romania, at the end of 2021 they reached 12.55 billion euros. The figures look good, but that does not mean that we have to stop here, economic relations must develop at the same sustained pace in the future”, declared the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany in Romania, H.E. Mr. Peer Gebauer.
