Bucharest, February 13, 2023: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had a meeting with Mr. Shigeyo Nishizawa, general director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Romania, in order to continue the efforts related to the consolidation of bilateral relations between the two states.

“At the CCIR level, there is total openness regarding the organization of joint events with the Japanese side to directly connect business people from the two states. Thanks to the European Union (EU) – Japan free trade agreement, there is currently a noticeable increase in trade, especially in the automotive industry, in the industrial machinery sector, as well as in the IT&C industry. In this context, the organization of a Japanese procurement mission becomes very important. Also, Japanese investors must consider the potential of the Constanța area, considering the advantages conferred by the Constanța port and shipyard, especially if we refer to the reduction by at least 60% of the transit time of naval transports using the Suez Canal route – Constanța Port, compared to those whose destination is the Port of Rotterdam. At the same time, the Port of Constanța can also represent an investment opportunity for JETRO, by creating a hub for Japanese goods on their way to the EU states”, said the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

“We want to organize with the help of the CCIR a series of investment missions in Bucharest, as we did in previous years. Thus, we anticipate that the first Japanese mission will take place during October 2023. We particularly appreciate the partnership with CCIR, carried out for over five years, the professionalism, seriousness and involvement of your organization being at the highest level. We assure you that in the future we will also act intensively for the continuous development of commercial relations between the two states and we will capitalize on the position of the CCIR as a top representative of the business community in your country”, said the general director of JETRO, Mr. Shigeyo Nishizawa.

JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) is a Japanese government organization established in 1958, which aims to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. The original purpose of JETRO’s work was to promote Japanese companies’ exports abroad, but in the 21st century the work has focused mainly on attracting foreign investment and supporting small and medium-sized Japanese firms to maximize their export potential worldwide.
