Mihai Daraban: Romania and Indonesia need a large-scale economic project

Bucharest, September 27, 2023: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received, on September 27 this year, the visit of H.E. Mister. Meidyatama Suryodiningrat, ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Romania, in order to support a dialogue on the topic of boosting bilateral economic collaboration.
“Both Romania and the Republic of Indonesia absolutely need a large-scale joint project, the so-called core project, which will surely strengthen bilateral trade relations and, obviously, will push more and more companies to access the markets from the two states. Such a project can aim for very close cooperation in the field of food security, especially if we take into account the geographical positioning of Romania, with access to the Black Sea and access to the Danube River. Thus, Constanța Port represents an efficient alternative for the transit of goods from the Republic of Indonesia to Europe, being an important gateway to the European Union states and beyond. All goods coming from the Republic of Indonesia by sea pass through the Suez Canal, and from here to the Port of Constanţa it is only three and a half days of sailing, compared to the 11 days it would take to enter the Port of Rotterdam, which means in the end lower costs”, said the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
“We must start as soon as possible joint investment projects with Romania, in which we involve the business environments of the two states and which in this way contribute to the growth of bilateral trade. At the moment, for example, there are no wheat imports from Romania, and in this sense the invitation to participate in INDAGRA, the most important agricultural fair in South-East Europe, is more than welcome and will certainly contribute to establishing new commercial contacts between the two business environments. Romania represents a market of major interest for Indonesian companies, CCIR’s support in identifying the problems and impediments that companies encounter in accessing the markets of the two countries is particularly important”, said E.S. Mister. Meidyatama Suryodiningrat, ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Romania
