Bucharest, October 2, 2023: The National Top of Companies 2023, a ranking made exclusively by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), registers positive trends for all the indicators that were the basis of its creation, such as: number of companies, figure of business, profit and number of employees.

Thus, compared to the previous year, the number of companies included in the first 10 positions increased from 12,740, in 2022, to 13,030, in 2023, representing an appreciation of 2.28%. At the same time, the cumulative turnover of the companies ranked in the first ten places is 279.3 billion euros, increasing by 31.66% compared to the previous year, and the operating profit of the companies amounted to 26.97 billion euros, meaning an increase percentage of 37.88%.

The share of profit in turnover increased in 2023 compared to 2022, with operating profit representing 9.6% of total turnover, which indicates an increase in the profitability of Romanian companies. Regarding the total number of employees of the companies ranked in the first 10 positions, it was 1,359,833, increasing by 3.85% compared to the previous year, when a number of 1,309,440 employees were registered.

“In 2023, we are celebrating 30 years since the institution of the National Top of Companies has been operating, which also includes the County Tops, made by the County Chambers of Commerce in Romania. In these 30 years, the business environment has faced many challenges, it has struggled to survive and adapt. It is very important, however, that after three decades we stayed together and demonstrated that business in Romania works. Every year, we see increases, whether we’re talking about the number of companies submitting financial statements, or turnover or profit. The data we have indicates an increase in the number of private companies with Romanian capital from 77 to 119, companies that have over 100 million euros in turnover. Also, the number of Romanian companies with a turnover between 50 and 100 million euros increased from 150 to 223. I am convinced that business people would like a doubling of financial indicators from year to year, but this is difficult to achieve because the consumption appetite of the state apparatus is impossible to satisfy. We will never get where we really want to be without budget comfort and fiscal predictability,” said the president of the CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

The National Top of Companies 2023 presents the best performing companies in seven fields of activity: industry, services, trade, tourism, research-development and high-tech, agriculture, forestry and fishing and construction. The most significant fields, by weight, according to the number of companies included in the top 10, are industry (35.1%) and services (28.4%), followed by trade (20.7%), agriculture, forestry and fishing ( 4.9%), construction (4.6%), research and development and high-tech (3.7%), tourism (2.3%).

In terms of turnover, trade has a share of 44.8% of the total turnover of companies, followed by industry (35.6%) and services (11.3%). The most profitable companies are in the industry, with a profit of 45.9% of the total profit and a profit share of 10.10% of the turnover of the companies in the industry.

CCIR awards the best performing companies in Romania, at the “Topul National al Firmelor” (TNF) Gala, the XXX edition, an event that will take place on Thursday, November 2 this year, at the Romexpo Exhibition Center. Representatives of the best performing companies, personalities of the central public authorities, as well as presidents of the County Chambers of Commerce are expected to participate in the event.
