Mihai Daraban: Attracting Korean production lines should be a priority for the Romanian economy

Bucharest, September 11, 2024: The President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, participated, on September 11 of this year, in an official meeting with representatives of some of the most powerful Korean companies, during a dinner organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Romania.
The event created the optimal framework for strengthening the collaborative relations between the two institutions, as well as for identifying new business opportunities for the business environments of both states.
“Today’s meeting, facilitated by E.S. Mr. Rim Kap-Soo, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Romania, represents a continuation of the dialogue that the two organizations have been supporting for several years on the topic of developing commercial relations between the two states. Korean products are well-known in Romania, both in the field of telecommunications and those in the automotive field. In 2023, for example, Romania imported from the Republic of Korea products worth more than 570 million euros, with a trade deficit with this country of more than 42 million euros. In the discussions I had during this dinner with the representatives of Korean companies, I argued that Romania should not limit itself to imports, but that it would be beneficial for both parties to open some production capacities in our country. Considering that almost everyone has at least one Korean product in their home, attracting such production lines should be a priority for the Romanian economy. Korean entrepreneurs can also benefit from the geographical position of Romania, the Port of Constanța being able to represent a commercial hub for goods coming from this country, offering all the necessary facilities for investment and ensuring a strategic position opening to Central and Western Europe through the corridor river of the Danube”, declared the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.
