Bucharest, November 6th, 2024: The President of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, held an official meeting today, November 6th, with H.E. Mr. Gudsi Osmanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, on an introductory visit. During the meeting, aspects of bilateral economic relations were discussed.

The CCIR President, Mr. Mihai Daraban, emphasized the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries and highlighted the active presence of Azerbaijani businesspeople in Romania. In the same context, opportunities in the energy sector were given priority.

“The excellent relationships developed over time between our business communities, along with the major challenges we currently face regarding European energy independence, compel us to revisit the AGRI (Azerbaijan – Georgia – Romania Interconnector) project. Azerbaijan’s contribution, combined with the efforts of European states in this new phase, could position AGRI as a cornerstone of European energy security. From our side, we will leverage our dialogue with the European Commission and our counterparts in the European chamber system to genuinely advance this vital project,” stated the CCIR President in his address.

During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov, appreciating the significant level of bilateral relations between Romania and Azerbaijan, extended an official invitation to the CCIR President to lead a representative delegation on a visit to Azerbaijan. “We eagerly await the Romanian delegation’s visit to strengthen governmental and business collaboration. We will ensure that the CCIR delegation has access to high-level contacts in Baku. Azerbaijan offers significant opportunities, and the bilateral relationship is supported by the contributions of companies like SOCAR, whose activity has fostered new economic partnerships,” the Azerbaijani ambassador remarked.
