Melbourne, September 5, 2025: The General Secretary of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR), Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi, participated from September 2-4, 2025 in the 14th Congress of the World Chambers Federation (WCF), which took place in Melbourne, Australia.

During this event, the National Chamber assumed a new mandate as a member of the WCF General Council within the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), a globally representative institution for chambers of commerce.

On the occasion of the trip to Australia, Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi had meetings with: Mr. Jason Collins, CEO, European Australian Business Council (EABC); Mr. Peter Horn, CEO AUSTRADE – Australia’s Federal Investment Agency; Mrs. Nola Watson, President ICC Australia; and Mr. Lyall Gorman, Vice President of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“CCIR’s objectives for the current mandate are in perfect alignment with the priorities of the World Chambers Federation. We are actively involved in supporting Romanian entrepreneurs who wish to expand their businesses beyond the country’s borders, even in these difficult times. In the context of current challenges to the international trade system, overshadowed by the war in Ukraine, as well as other factors negatively influencing international markets, CCIR promotes cooperation over destructive competition. Our prosperity depends on an open, rules-based economic system under fair competition conditions. Our main objectives must be to strengthen global value chains against current and future disruptions,” stated CCIR General Secretary Mr. Ovidiu Silaghi.

Background:

The World Chambers Federation (WCF) is a non-political and non-governmental body of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Initially established in 1951 as the International Bureau of Chambers of Commerce, WCF aims to unify and support the global network of chambers of commerce. The role of the WCF General Council is to promote and protect the concept of chambers of commerce as essential intermediary entities between governments and the business environment and between the business environment and the general public.
