The message of the CCIR president, Mr. Mihai Daraban, on the occasion of the day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities
Publicat pe 24/01/2023
The day of January 24, 1859 represents a triumph of the ideal of unification of the Romanian Principalities, the elites of those times, whether we are talking about those from political life or those from cultural life, succeeding, through a sustained effort, to unite Moldova with Wallachia under one banner.
The Union of the Romanian Principalities had Alexandru Ioan Cuza as a prominent figure, as lord of Moldavia and Wallachia. The reforms he carried out after the union on January 24, represented the cornerstone of the modern Romanian state, decisively influencing the socio-political life of the country.
It should not be forgotten that on September 30, 1864, Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza signs the Royal Decree 1363 regarding the establishment of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The project aimed to create institutions that would connect the Romanian Principalities to the Western capitalist economic system, which became, in the second half of the 19th century, the political, economic and cultural model of Romania.
The Union of the Romanian Principalities will remain in history as an example of the Romanians’ power to mobilize for the fulfillment of a national desire to develop and modernize the country in the long term.
Happy birthday to all Romanians and those who love Romania!
