Reducing labor taxation should come together with a package of measures meant to boost economic activity

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania is an important partner of the business environment and public institutions in the process of promoting economic development – this is the reasserted message on the 150 years anniversary from the enforcement of the first law of the Chambers of Commerce in Romania. At the same time, we welcome the standpoint of Mr. Mugur Isărescu, the Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR), according to whom reducing social contributions (CAS) by 5 percentage points should not be accompanied by additional taxes. The CAS reduction alone will not lead to job creation; the measure should be included in a package of measures dedicated to economic activity boosting.
Also, CCIR considers that a positive measure for the business environment should not be overshadowed by the existence of any risk regarding new taxes, an action which we hope the Government will not undertake.
CCIR joins the idea promoted by BNR, according to which there is a need for a further taxation of unused real estate (fallow farmland, unused housing facilities, blocked estate).
CCIR considers that reducing labor taxation is a consistent stimulus for those who want to invest in human resources and have a large number of employees and, in the meantime, it works as a reverse for the taxation increase for big companies, in the first part of this year.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania,
Mihai Daraban
