Bucharest, May 31st, 2017: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, received on Wednesday, May 31st, 2017, at the CCIR Business Center headquarters, the working visit of the Executive Vice President of Jetro Tokyo (Japan’s Foreign Trade Organization) Koji Yonetani.

The President of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban, stressed the full availability of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania to Jetro and the interest in its collaborative initiatives. In the same context, Mr. Daraban spoke about Romania’s opening for Japanese investments and about the important role of Constanța port due to its key position in the Black Sea.

According to the President of CCIR, this goal can become an important logistics platform in transporting and storing the goods brought from Japan to the Romanian market and to Europe as well.

Mr. Koji Yonetani praised the partnership with the CCIR as an important one for the organization it represents both in joint projects and in terms of trade between Romania and Japan, adding that Jetro focuses on the integration of Japanese companies into supply chains European markets and attracting foreign direct investment to Japan.
Jetro Tokyo’s executive vice president also spoke about the main infrastructure project involving the authorities of the two countries, namely the 6th subway station in Bucharest. At the same time, Yonetani announced that Jetro is looking forward to organizing an economic mission dedicated to the service sector in Romania, and underlined the importance of the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement.

Background:

The volume of trade between Romania and Japan reached 501.96 million Euros in November 2016, according to the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Relations with the Business Environment, Department of Foreign Trade and International Relations. The value of exports was 197.57 million, while imports reached 304.39 million Euros. According to the ONRC, on April, Japan ranks 24th in the ranking of the 50 countries of residence of investors with foreign participation in the share capital. The total number of companies with Japanese capital in Romania is 325.
