Lima, Peru, March 9th, 2017: The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mr. Mihai Daraban, had on Thursday, March 9th, 2017, a meeting with President of Peru-Romania Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Eduardo Samaniego, at the headquarters of the Romanian Embassy in Peru. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral economic relations and the actions undertaken by Chambers of Commerce in order to make the two markets more accessible to potential investors.

After a brief overview of CCIR main prerogatives, Mr. Mihai Daraban referred to concrete ways of developing economic relations and bilateral cooperation. In this regard, CCIR President stressed that: “70% of Romania’s foreign trade is conducted by the EU, 15% to non-EU European countries and 15% to other countries. Romanian companies should earn as much in the international market and out of EU borders. I believe that, since February 2013, when the Treaty of Free Trade between Peru and the European Union came into effect, gradually led to an improvement in trade”. The President of CCIR also stated that Romania, as an EU member, can strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations with Peru, given that, is among the most stable and reliable EU partners in Latin America.

The President of Peru – Romania Chamber of Commerce stated that the companies interested to access the Peruvian market will enjoy the Chamber of Commerce full support, the most appropriate areas of activity for the Romanian companies who want to work in Peru, being: construction, medical industry and inland railways.

Both sides expressed their interest in relaunching the trade between companies of the two countries by the introduction of new Romanian products on the Peru market and Peruvian products on Romania market. Romanian and Peruvian companies through the Chambers of Commerce and Institutions promoting international trade want to develop actions with the purpose of improving economic relations.

Background information:

All economic and trade relations between Peru and Romania are governed by agreements and directives came into effect together with the Free Trade Treaty between the European Union and Peru. Some chapters in the agreement include: market access, rules of origin, customs and facilities of trade, technical barriers to trade, services, exchange of capital, public procurement, intellectual property, competition, solutions differences, trade and sustainable development and technical assistance and capacity building.

U.E. is the second market for Peruvian exports and third market for imports. The Trade Agreement between the EU and its Member States, on the one hand, and Peru, on the other hand, is an important tool for improving the quality and quantity of commercial relations between Romania and Peru.
